J is a 16-year-old female with a diagnosis of Autism, and her family got to a point within the family home of not being able to manage J’s challenging behaviours, an altercation occurred at home, the police were called, and J was placed with us as an emergency accommodation measure to safeguard.
It was soon discovered that J had been very controlled at home, and had virtually no independent living skills, our support team had to work very hard with J to gain enough trust from her so’s to build upon these skills and make improvements for her longer term. J was unable to cook for herself, keep her environment clean, or maintain appropriate hygiene levels without support.
As part of her personalised support plan, her allocated key worker managed to set monthly goals and targets with J so that her confidence in her independent abilities would grow.
J has now successfully enrolled in a local college to study animal management and is really looking forward to that. J has also engaged well with the local CAMHS team and is receiving external support for the traumatic experiences that she went through living at home. We are assisting the social care team with preparing for an adult social care referral to be made when J approaches 18, as it is recognised that J will need support moving through into adult hood.
